Why A 1964 Dodge 880?

My love for large Chryslers started back in 1985 when I took ownership of my grandmother's 1964 Chrysler Newport sedan. The car had always been parked outside and driven year-round in St Joseph, Missouri, so needless to say, it wasn't pretty. Some low budget bodywork and paint later and she was back on the road. I spent a lot of time in high school and college doing what I could to maintain and restore her, but constant use in all types of northeast weather, almost no budget, little time and no indoor storage ultimately spelled her demise. Ever since, I have always known that someday I would own another. It was only a matter of time.

Well, that time has come! My original search was for another 1964 Newport, but a convertible this time. I found a few, but either too many things were wrong, they were out of my price range, or better yet, both. Some research led me to look for a Dodge 880 and the result is now in my garage. She is pretty solid and has been well maintained, covered and kept off salty winter roads. The 880 is a sister car to the Newport having been built on the same platform. Early badge engineering!

As I create this blog, I will continually update my to do list, add pictures and post progress of the work I complete. My goal is a combination of preservation with restoration when needed. The car will be a driver, so I will always have something to work on. Hopefully these posts will help provide information to others wanting to restore one of these babies.
